Retiring in Yukon: territorial tax and senior programs
Yukon's territorial tax brackets are unusual: the first three thresholds match the federal ones, and the basic personal amount follows the federal amount. This page explains the 2026 brackets, what they mean for retirement income, and Yukon's programs for older residents.

Yukon income tax in 2026
Retirement income — CPP, OAS, pension and RRIF withdrawals — is taxed by both Ottawa and Yukon. These are the 2026 provincial/territorial bracket rates; the Yukon basic personal amount is $16,452. Yukon's basic personal amount follows the federal amount.
| Taxable income | Rate |
|---|---|
| $0 to $58,523 | 6.40% |
| $58,523 to $117,045 | 9% |
| $117,045 to $181,440 | 10.90% |
| $181,440 to $500,000 | 12.80% |
| Over $500,000 | 15% |
| Income | Federal | Yukon | Total | Average | Marginal |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| $30,000 | $1,897 | $867 | $2,764 | 9.2% | 20.4% |
| $50,000 | $4,697 | $2,147 | $6,844 | 13.7% | 20.4% |
| $75,000 | $9,268 | $4,175 | $13,443 | 17.9% | 29.5% |
| $100,000 | $14,393 | $6,425 | $20,818 | 20.8% | 29.5% |
Yukon's 2026 tax brackets
For 2026, Yukon charges 6.4% on taxable income up to $58,523, 9% up to $117,045, 10.9% up to $181,440, 12.8% up to $500,000 and 15% above that. The first three thresholds are the same as the 2026 federal brackets.
Yukon's basic personal amount follows the federal amount, which is $16,452 for 2026. The calculator uses that full amount; at higher incomes, where the federal amount is reduced, confirm how the Yukon amount is treated with the CRA. The table and worked example on this page are generated from these 2026 figures.
Why matching thresholds matter
Because the federal and territorial brackets change at the same points, a retiree's combined marginal rate moves in fewer, larger steps. Crossing $58,523, for example, raises the federal rate from 14% to 20.5% and the territorial rate from 6.4% to 9% at the same time.
That makes the threshold a natural reference point when planning RRIF withdrawals, CPP and OAS start dates, or pension income splitting. The retirement tax calculator shows the combined rate, and the RRIF minimum tool shows the required withdrawals.
Yukon residents may be able to claim the federal northern residents deductions, which the calculator does not include. Confirm eligibility with the CRA.
Yukon programs for older residents
The Pioneer Utility Grant helps Yukon seniors 65 or older with the cost of heating their homes, whether they own or rent. It is income-tested, applications are taken each year during a set window, and seniors in social housing or receiving a rental subsidy are not eligible.
The Yukon Seniors Income Supplement is a territorial top-up for low-income seniors who receive the federal GIS or the Allowance; see our GIS guide. Yukon also offers Pharmacare and Extended Health Care Benefits for seniors, which help with prescription drugs and some other health costs.
Program rules, amounts and application periods are updated by the Government of Yukon, so the current year's information sheet is the reference to check before applying.
What the tax estimate includes
The worked example on this page uses the 2026 federal and Yukon brackets and both basic personal amounts. It leaves out the age amount, the pension income amount, dividend and capital gains treatment and other credits, so for many retirees actual tax is somewhat lower than shown. Northern residents deductions are not included either.
Use the figures to compare scenarios on either side of the shared $58,523 threshold rather than as a return calculation. Dated official figures are on key figures, and the methodology page explains the assumptions.
